La Casita in Swansboro is our guest house in Swansboro, NC…”The Friendly City by the Sea”. La Casita in Swansboro is a very well appointed comfortable home away from home. The home backs up to Redbay Farm, part of our 47 acres of forests. Elizabeth and I live in Redbay Cottage right next to La Casita. La Casita is where our family comes to stay when they visit the area. When you visit, expect to be treated like family.
In the back yard watch wildlife and our goats and chickens in a very private setting. The back yard is fenced with a 7 foot privacy fence on three sides. The back fence is a 4 ft wire fence which allows a clear view of our small pasture and forest. The back yard is secure for children. From the back yard It is very common to see a deer, a wood ibis, a great blue heron, a great white heron, ducks and numerous song birds. Sitting on the covered back porch of La Casita it is easy to forget you are in town! Yet, step out the front door and the Swansboro Municipal Park is just a couple of blocks away…a little over a mile away is downtown Swansboro.
La Casita is close enough to downtown Swansboro that in the summer you can hear the music from the summer concerts at Pug Pavilion (The corner of Front and Church Street). During the holidays you can hear church bells from the Methodist Church playing traditional Christmas music. At the same time don’t be surprised to hear the scream of a bobcat, the yip of a coyote or barking of a fox while enjoying evenings with your family around the fire pit. Of course you’ll hear our rooster Tinker in the morning and from time to time during the day. Don’t worry Tinker stays with his hens in the hen house until I let him out to forage about the yard with “his girls”.
Of course spring and summer are all about the beach, BBQ and boating! La Casita is only minutes from one of the best beaches on the East Coast. That beach is Hammocks Beach which is on Bear Island. The beach is part of Hammocks Beach State Park which is the number one attraction is Swansboro. The park is only 3 miles from La Casita. At the park you can take the ferry over to the undeveloped beach. At the beach imagine Blackbeard the pirate dividing booty, Native Americans Indians foraging for seafood or Union Soldiers and Seamen plotting their attack on the Confederate artillery at Huggins’ Island Fort. After your day exploring at the beach stop by Clyde Phillips Seafood to pick up the evenings dinner. Once you get home shower off in our solar warmed shower and then have a great time cooking your meal on our Weber grill and then enjoying a great evening with your family and friends.
Visiting in the fall or winter? La Casita is perfect! On rainy days you’ll enjoy the warmth of the wood stove while watching movies or reading in the family room while your friends and family enjoy a game of pool. On sunny days go to one of the many trails in the area. There is something for everyone. The Tideland Trail in Cedar point has paths out over the marsh and is easily walked by almost anyone. Out in the Croatan National Forest you’ll find more challenging trails that you can follow through a wide variety of typical Eastern North Carolina coastal terrain. Do you like fishing? Fall and Winter are perfect! Hire one of our local guides to take you on a great fishing trip. Fall and winter are also a great time to enjoy oysters. We recommend the T&W oyster bar to sample some local oysters. Try a rooster while you are there!
